SVMVS
Every name is a promise made before there is any proof. SVMVS is the first person plural of the verb to be — we are — set in the older Latin cut, where U and V share a single letter. It begins as a way of working held in common, and waits for the work itself to explain it.
Origin
The name is older than anything made under it. Sumus: present tense, plural, unfinished — a claim that stays true only while there is work standing behind it.
V for U
Roman inscriptions cut both letters as V. The mark keeps the older shape.
Five letters
Short enough to sign a corner. Long enough to read as a word.
One voice
Plural in grammar, singular in judgement.
Practice
Work before announcement. Nothing is described here that has not already been built, shown at full size, and left to survive contact with the real thing.
